Taro Alexander Nordmark is a native of Stockholm,
Sweden. Last November, Taro competed with 10 contestants from all
over the world and was proclaimed as International Man 2007 in
Bali, Indonesia.
Born on 23rd July, 1988 and stands at
1.84m tall, Taro spent the first 6 years of his young life in
Gamla Stan and 4 years in New Jersey (USA). After that, the family
moved back to a little city community called Stora Essingen in
Stockholm where Taro attended Rεlambshovsskola and later graduated
from Kungsholmens Gymnasium.
Taro does not look like the typical Nordic
Scandinavian dude. His Swedish-Japanese father, Sixten, met his
beautiful Chinese bride, Shirly, when they were both modeling in
Hong Kong. Taro has a younger sister and a pet dog.
Taro is a huge movie buff. He meets with a bunch of
his friends every week day to watch movies together. Being a board
sport fan, Taro will make several trips a year to the mountains to
snow board. In the summers, Taro skateboards actively. He is
taking up surfing recently.
This self professed computer nerd burst into the
modeling limelight only a year ago. He will travel to Hong Kong,
Sweden, Japan and a few other countries in the region for modeling
opportunities. Taro's ambition includes a successful career in
Marine Biology or Commercial Pilot.
In Taro's own
words, "As for now, I want to explore the world. I want to consume
as much culture and global experience as possible. This is truly a
once in a lifetime opportunity!" |

Welcome to the Land of Gods
Geographically, Bali lies between the islands of Java and Lombok.
Stretching approximately 140km from east to west and 80km from
north to south. Bali is one of more than 13,500 islands that make
the Indonesian Archipelago. Lying just 8o south of the
equator. Bali boasts a tropical climate with just two seasons a
year and an average annual temperature of around 28o C.
The rich volcanic soil and healthy monsoon season make the island
extremely fertile and a range of crops are grown here. Bali is
famous for its terraced rice paddies, among the most spectacular
in the world; coffee, copra, spices, vegetables, cattle, and rice.
Bali is also known as the "Island of the Gods", where temples and
ceremonies can be found almost everywhere and everyday. The
majority of Balinese are Hindu. Although they have a caste system,
Balinese Hindus are very different from the ones in India.
Religious life in Bali is almost inseparable from cultural life.
One of the daily rituals is presenting offerings. Offerings play a
significant role in Balinese daily life as they appease the
spirits and thus bring prosperity and good health to the family.
CLIMATE
Located in the tropical zone, Bali enjoys an average year-round
daily temperature between 20o - 33o Celsius.
Fluctuations do occur but they are minimal. Bali's climate is also
characterized by high humidity, around 85% because of abundant
rainfall and high temperatures. Here in Bali, only two seasons
predominate, a dry and a rainy season lasts December to March,
whereas dry season from May to October with transition period
between October and December, known as "Musim Pancaroba",
characterized by changing winds and inconsistent weather. The
average temperature in Bali in December is between 28o
C (82.4o F) - 30o C (86o F) and
the relative humidity is about 88%. There is comparatively little
difference between the daytime and night time temperatures.
CUSTOM
The island of Bali is
known as the land of a thousand temples, although there are
actually more than 5,000 scattered throughout the island. Each
temple celebrates its birthday very 210 days, so there are always
festival going on. In addition to the many important religious
ceremonies held throughout the year, cremations, which are
occasion for great celebration, are particularly frequent between
July and October. |
